This
program will work best for people with occasional
stress, or moderate stress. You may need extra
help if:
- you
are under severe stress now (perhaps because
of a traumatic event in your life).
- you
still feel an uncomfortable level of stress
even after you have worked through the program
a few times.
Many
hospitals, health insurers, and community centers offer classes in stress management, or they may be available
through your workplace. If you are under severe stress, you may benefit from professional counseling. Ask your
doctor to recommend a mental health professional or ask a friend who has benefited from counseling to give you
the name of his or her counselor. You may also contact your county mental health agency, local psychology (APA),
or clinical social work (NASW) referral lines for help finding a counselor.
If
you have health care benefits through your place
of employment, go to your internal employee assistance
program (EAP) or contact the referral line for
your mental health benefits. This route will ensure
that the therapist you choose has the proper license
and that the visit will be covered by your insurance.
