To Do This Week - Assert Yourself

Review the entries in your journal that you identified as stressors that may be alleviated by communicating your needs, desires, or point of view to someone. Choose one of these events and plan to have a conversation with the individual following the "PFC" model (Problem, Feelings, Change Sought) we reviewed earlier.

After the conversation, think about the following: Did the conversation help alleviate the problem? Did it alleviate the stress you associated with the problem? Did you experience more stress? Was the resolution satisfactory? Is there a need for another conversation?

The conversation should have an objective tone rather than a heatedly emotional one. This may be difficult, but plan the conversation at a time and place where you can be as calm and unbiased as possible. Remember, the purpose of this type of conversation is not to accuse or blame, but rather to voice problems, feelings, and possible solutions.
