The Importance of Motion

If you’ve been walking regularly, you’ve probably found that exercise is a great natural tranquilizer as well as an energy booster.

We know that exercise decreases muscle tension, jitteriness, and hyperactivity by measurements and reports of people participating in various scientific studies. Endorphins, which have a relaxing effect, are released during exercise. Some studies suggest that neurotransmitters involved in regulating our moods, such as seratonin, are positively affected by exercise. Regular exercise also has the effect, over time, of lowering blood pressure.

Physical activity allows us to shift our focus from the predominately rational-thinking left brain, to the more "laid back" activity of the right brain. Energy seems to shift from the mind to the body, and we get a mental break. Exercise also seems to elevate our good feelings about ourselves—our self-esteem improves.

Finally, whose who exercise regularly tend to make better food choices as exercise regulates metabolism and can reduce stress-related eating. Better nutrition then also aids to better stress management.
